Mineral Fiber Batt and Blanket Insulation
Certification Process
To test mineral fiber batt and blanket insulation, the NAHB Research Center
extracts thermal test specimens from three different thickness locations and
three different length locations within a batt:
-
through the thickness of the piece
-
along the length of each piece in a package
-
through the location of the piece within a package.
Multiple locations are tested to compensate for performance variation in the
density and thermal properties of batt and blanket insulation material can
occur across production lines and along the three-dimensional axis.
In-plant measurements include area coverage, density, recovered thickness,
length, and width in accordance with ASTM C167. Laboratory measurements include
thermal properties in accordance with ASTM C518 and C653.
